First Annual Review (2019)

The first annual review and planning meeting of the second phase of the HTMA project was held on September 27-28, 2019, in Nepalgunj, Nepal. Jointly organized by the National Maize Research Program (NMRP) Nepal and CIMMYT, the meeting focused on reviewing the progress made during the first year of the project and discussing future work plans and activities for each partnering institution. The inaugural session was themed “Targeted Breeding of Stress-Resilient Maize for Asian Tropics” and featured a series of seminars. Dr. B.M. Prasanna, Director of the Global Maize Program, delivered a seminar on “Product Profile-Based Maize Breeding and Varietal Replacement in South Asia,” followed by remarks from Hailu Wordofa, USAID Program Officer, on “Heat-Tolerant Maize Hybrids: A Smart Way to Address Future Climate Uncertainties.” After the inaugural session, HTMA’s annual review and planning technical sessions were presented and discussed by the project partners. A total of 82 participants from various South Asian countries attended the meeting.
